Just when you thought things were finally settling down, your Galatean liaison nabs a sweet little deal offered by a “concerned Federated suns citizen.” Backtracking this mysterious employer’s identity confirms connections to several suns and league corporations, with the money to back the sizable contract. so even though you’d like to give your people some rest and refit, it’s too good to pass up. Well, that and the fact that you’re the only merc command nearby with free time.

The simply worded contract says “eliminate the Grim Determination from Sheratan.” That’s it. someone out there either has a massive grudge against those hard-luck mercs or wants them removed from the system so whoever it is can swoop right in—which makes the Federated suns connections a lot clearer.

The Grim Determination has suffered constant terror strikes in and around their bases, as well as around the facilities housing the planetary government—which seems to have pro-davion leanings, but likes to play the independence game, too. Best guess? someone down there wants to make a power play and shove the system firmly into the Feddie camp. and they want you to do the dirty work.

Ok, so long as the credits good.

Hostilities commenced when the recon lances of the Monkeys and the Grim Determination encountered each other in the wilderness.

After-Action Report

The battle was a cagey fight, as both parties probed at the defenses of the other without wanting to overcommit. When one of the Grim Determination scouts had its leg blown off, the remaining Grim Determination units withdrew.

Standup Fight 1

29 November 3070
Status: Victory

With the Grim Determination located, the remaining units of the Flaming Devil Monkeys moved to attack their position, splitting into two separate flanks. The Grim Determination moved out units of its own to establish a perimeter defense around its base of operations.

After-Action Report

The left flank was an even affair on paper with boths sides fielding two lances of mechs and one air lance. The Monkeys were able to establish quick air superiority by downing both of the Grim Determination’s fighters. Harassed from the air and ground, the Grim Determination was forced to withdraw after losing a lance’s worth of mechs.

Standup Fight 2

Status: Victory

With the Grim Determination located, the remaining units of the Flaming Devil Monkeys moved to attack their position, splitting into two separate flanks. The Grim Determination moved out units of its own to establish a perimeter defense around its base of operations.

After-Action Report

The Monkeys had the advantage of air support on the right flank which they used to good effect to keep the Grim Determination pinned while their ground forces moved in for the kill. In total, the Monkeys claimed four kills before the Grim Determination retreated.

Flanking Attack

06 December 3070
Status: Victory

Both sides pulled back to lick their wounds and repair their Mechs. Major Ann Martinez of the Grim Determination realized that the Monkeys would slowly bleed them if they did not take a more offensive approach. Hoping to seize the initiative, she sent her main force directly at the Monkeys while a flanking force attempted to circle around and attack their supply line from the rear.

After-Action Report

The Monkeys anticipated Martinez’s flanking maneuver and Captain Mbeki’s Gorilla lance as well as Baboon Lance and Tamarin Air Lance were able to smash the opposing force of two mech lances completely, capturing all equipment and personnel.

Standup Attack 3

06 December 3070
Status: Victory

Both sides pulled back to lick their wounds and repair their Mechs. Major Ann Martinez of the Grim Determination realized that the Monkeys would slowly bleed them if they did not take a more offensive approach. Hoping to seize the initiative, she sent her main force directly at the Monkeys while a flanking force attempted to circle around and attack their supply line from the rear.

After-Action Report

Major Martinez led the main attack group against Commander Bane’s Silverback Lance, Spider Monkey lance, and Tamarin Air Lance. Although outnumbered numerically, the Monkeys held their ground. Having taken the worst of the damage and receiving word that the flanking maneuver had failed, Major Martinez ultimately pulled back her forces.

Base Attack

20 December 3070
Status: Victory

Now with a clear numerical superiority, the Monkeys bided their time before a final attack on the Grim Determination base. They busied themselves with brining all of their units back to fighting trim and giving Major Martinez the opportunity to cut bait and run. When she made no such move, the Monkeys finally moved en-masse to destroy the Grim Determination’s base.

After-Action Report

The fighting was fierce, but the Grim Determination were outgunned. Eventually, Major Martinez withdrew all six of the remaining mechs to the cover of her dropships’ guns and began boarding. Seeing that the enemy was beat, Commander Bane called a halt and allowed what was left of the Grim Determination to depart.
