Irian
Planetary AssaultLocation: Irian
Status: Success
When word of their victory over Belial on Luthien spread, the Monkeys attracted the attention of the coalition forming on Arc-Royal. The mysterious leader, Devlin Stone, invited the Monkeys to join. In need of refit and repair, the Monkeys accepted. They spent much of 3075 recovering and training, in addition to adding pilots to replace their losses on Luthien. It was an odd but peaceful respite from the Jihad raging around them.
In October of 3074, Devlin Stone offered the Monkeys an important mission. He had word that rebel forces on Irian were planning a planetwide revolt to shake of their Blakist oppressors, but they would need some outside help. Restless from months of activity, Commander Bane gladly accepted the mission. The Monkeys boosted out of system shortly afterward.
Assault
05 December 3075Status: Victory
Having thrown off the attempted flanking maneuver, the remaining company of Monkey mechs made straight for the Palace of Justice in the center of the city, hoping to cutoff the head and end resistance to the invasion.
After-Action Report
A company of militia mechs, affiliated conventional units, and battle armor met the Monkeys as they moved toward the Palace, determined to stop them at the Kirin River in downtown Irian. Among the sparkling skyscrapers, the units battled fiercely. However, the jump capable mechs of the Monkeys proved more maneuverable in the tight confines and their superior skills made short work of the Irian units. In particular, Axe was a force of destruction leaping his mech into the back ranks of the enemy and devastating them with TSM-empowered hatchet strikes. After he downed a fifth mech, the remaining Irian forces quickly surrendered. The only serious damage on the Monkey side occurred when a bridge collapsed under the weight of Caveman’s Marauder. He managed to extract it from the water, but the mech was then riddled by combined enemy fire as it made the bank. Caveman was able to eject without injury, however.
Beachhead
05 December 3075Status: Victory
The first task the Monkeys faced was making planetfall which would require breaking through the defensive screen around the planet. Launching fighters in front to protect the vulnerable dropships, the Monkeys decided to break through in force, facing off against a squadron of blakist aerospace fighters.
After-Action Report
The Monkeys aerojocks were able to concentrate the attention of the opposing forces and the dropships easily broke through. The fighters then disengaged, although not without taking some serious damage.
As the Monkeys dropped toward the planets, the dropships diverted to different pre-arranged landing sites.
Guns of Kirin River
05 December 3075Status: Victory
In order to bring in aerial support, the Monkeys and their allies needed to destory a battery of anti-aircraft turrets situated on a small island in the center of Kirin River. Baboon Lance and militia support were tasked with taking this battery out.
After-Action Report
The eight double-barreled LBX cannons on the battery towers proved to be a tough nut to crack, especially when combined with the mechs and battle armor defending the facility. The Baboons were able to use their jump maneuverabilty to avoid the worst and stay out of range, but their militia support was devasted. Things started to look bad, when Bandit’s Griffin suffered a stray shot that disabled his left hip. He was able to eject and was pulled back to safety by the remnants of the IPL’s jump infantry platoon. Meanwhile, the remaining Baboons were able to take out six of the eight batteries which was judged to be a success overall. They then pulled back.
Recon
05 December 3075Status: Victory
Lemur lance’s responsibility was recon in force up the main highway into Kirin River, destroying target of opportunities as available. Near a major intersection into town, the Lemurs detected mech powerups from behind a manufacturing facility.
After-Action Report
Using their superior jumping abilities and skills, the Lemurs quickly managed to outmaneuver and surround their opponents. With devastating close range attacks, they quickly took down the majority of the opposing level II and then shot down the remainder as they attempted to break and flee.
The first shots had been fired. The revolution had begun.
Stalwart
05 December 3075Status: Victory
Elements of the Irian Defense League attempted to flank the Monkey’s position by navigating through a designated agricultural zone outside of the city. The Cyborg Monkeys moved to intercept and engaged the enemy forces outside a small town.
After-Action Report
Setting up in a defensive position at a high point, the Monkeys were able to get a good vantage point to effectively use their c3i systems to devastating effect. Although heavily outmassed, they were able to inflict enough damage on the attacking IDL forces that they routed before reaching the Cyborg Monkeys position. However, Ohara’s Preta was a total loss after it was caught in enemy crossfire while spotting for the other units, although Ohara was able to survive with minor injuries.
Turn Your Radio On
05 December 3075Status: Victory
The Irian Partisan League was broadcasting their revolution across several public radio channels. Determined to cut it off at the source, the Blakists decided to take out important radio facilitiers outside of Kirin River. Mbeki’s Gorilla Lance was diverted from its original taks to help defend the facility along with IPL militia forces.
After-Action Report
The incoming Irian Defense League forces were bottlenecked between two high hills on their way into the area and the Monkeys and their allies were able to bloody them enough that they eventually retreated. None of the Monkey mechs had escaped damage, but they were all still functional and the radio was still on.
Iron Giants
08 December 3075Status: Victory
After the capitulation of forces at the palace, the blakist forces on Irian quickly folded and the puppet government was thrown down. Irian was a free planet once again, but now faced the difficult work of reconstruction.
However, reports over the next two days suggested that an independent Manei Domini Level II was active near the IrTech facilities. It appears taht this MD force has been using the utility tunnels below the factories to make hit and run attacks on Irian forces. The Monkeys were hired on a separate short-term contract to root out these guerillas.
The utility tunnels were a warren-like maze, so the Monkeys split up into two lance groups upon entry to better find their quarry.
After-Action Report
Silverback and Spide Monkey lances finally cornered the Blakists in the tunnels. The blakists were A mixed Level II of elite Manei Domini units led by a fearsome Archangel, supported by some of the Irian “security” personnel who had remained loyal to the blakists.
In the tight tunnels, the Monkeys were able to pick off several of the support units before converging on the remaining forces en masse. Menace and Caveman had their mechs disabled by the VDNI supported fire of the Manei Domini units, but the remaining mechs were able to quickly overcome the forces. Axe scored the final blow on the Archangel, although he suffered critical damage to his hip at the same time.
With these lingering forces eliminated, the Monkeys quickly packed up and boosted for the jump point, having received word of further opportunities from Stone’s alliance. Less than 24 hours later, the Monkeys received word that the blakists had nuked most of IrTech’s sites from orbit.
