Jillian Sian-Marik indeed claims to be a descendant of the infamous Sian-Mariks whose reign of violence and terror seven hundred years ago is still a legend in the Free Worlds League today. More recently, she is the great-granddaughter of Vincente Sian-Marik who was (also infamously) duped into turning his Capellan province over to the Free Worlds before being unceremoniously removed from office.

Jillian grew up on Ohrensen in the now dilapidated noble estate of the Sian-Marik family. Ohrensen is a “thugocracy” run by various crime families and the Sian-Mariks, although deprived of their noble mandate, used their influence and wealth to become important players in that world. Jillian, however, had no interest in learning the family business. Instead she hoped to make a name for herself in the FWLM and restore the famly name. After much family turmoil, she finally earned a sport at the Allison Mechwarrior Institute and left Ohrensen vowing never to return again..

Jillian did well at the Academy, but suffered much abuse from fellow students who still remembered the Sian-Marik name. She earned a spot in the Marik Militia, but found that her career was stymied for the same reason as her difficulties at school. Try as she might, she could not escape her name. Eventually, she quit in disgust and returned to her family on Ohrensen where she started to learn the family business after all.

When she began to hear of the exploits of Devlin Stone during the Jihad, Jillian began questioning her choices in life. Inspired by his example, she traveled to Arc-Royal to join his coalition. There she found herself one of many hopefuls for far too few positions. She made friends with another hopeful named Seifu Kwasi and when serendipity landed him a spot with the Flaming Devil Monkeys, he dropped her name as another potential recruit. Being a group of misfits, the Monkeys didn’t care about her name or history and promised her some good fights against Blakits. She signed up immediately.

Jillian’s callsign is a reference to her famous ancestor, Clorinda Sian-Marik, who was named “Angel” as an ironic gesture due to her ruthless character. Jillian having learned to be ruthless in her former career is certainly no angel, but she is also considerably more idealistic than her ancestor.
