Mo Khaled is the younger brother of Fatima Khaled who also a member of the Monkeys. They both grew up in a devout Azami family on Arkab. Unlike his sister, Mo was a rebellious young man who had no interest in the Azami faith. He wanted to be a mechwarrior and when his sister successfully tested into the local militia as a mechwarrior, it inspired him to greater things.

Mo applied to the Dieron District Gymnasium and was accepted. After four years of grueling training, he was assigned to the Fourtieth Dieron Regulars. His integration was initially difficult for many were distrustful of his Azami origins, but his acerbic wit quickly won over his companions and he eventually felt like he had finally found a new family, away from the stifling constraints of his Azami upbrining. It all came crashing down when his older sister transferred into the unit, so that she could keep an eye on him for their parents. Even worse, she was assigned as his lance commander. He chafed at the insult, but put up with it for the good of the Dragon.

When the chaos exploded on Luthien, it was Fatima who convincec Mo that he could not join his Fourtieth comrades in the Black Dragon coup. It was a hard truth for Mo, who had grown to think of the Fourtieth as his new home. They fled into the wilderness of Luthien where they made contact with Genyosha units and joined the resistance against the Black Dragons. Eventually they teamed up with the Monkeys to fight against the Blakists and Black Dragons. When the siblings learned of the atrocities on their homeworld, they decided to join the Monkeys permaneantly.
