Vincenzo’s family comes from a distinguished line of warriors hailing from the Federated Suns (in fact, they claim to trace their heritage to a famous revolutionary on ancient Terra). However, Vincenzo’s grandfather, Guiseppe Garibaldi, left the Federated Suns in 3005, claiming that he could no longer tolerate the close association of the Federated Suns with the “false church” (i.e. the New Avalon Catholic Church). He traveled to Solaris VII and became an independent gladiator.
The Garibaldi family has always had a flare for theatrics. In 3042, Vincenzo’s father, Filipe Garibaldi, who had carried on the gladiator tradition, reconciled with the New Avalon Catholic Church by kneeling in the wet snow outside of the local diocese in Solaris City overnight and begging forgiveness. Most observers viewed it as nothing but a publicity stunt, one that was rewarded the next day when the Bishop of both the New Avalon Catholic Church and the Roman Catholic Church came together to grant Filipe his forgiveness. Filipe remained on Solaris VII but now fought for the Federated Suns once again.
Vincenzo continued both the gladiatorial tradition and the theatrical one. He is an amateur Baritone, who often sand to the crowd following a victory. His love of the opera is only equaled by his love of food. It is the latter interest which earned him his nickname of “Meatball.”
The Flaming Devil Monkeys recruited Garibaldi to fill Desiree Sheikh’s spot after she went MIA during the Dieron action. Garibaldi’s career on Solaris VII had largely stalled out and so he accepted.
