Fatima grew up in a devout Azami family on Arkab. She was the only daughter in a family with three younger brothers and learned quickly how to stand up for herself.

Straight out of secondary school, Fatima joined the local militia where she tested into a position as a tank driver. After six months of service, her superiors quickly saw her talents and she was given the opportunity to train as a mechwarrior on some of the older units owned by the militia. Within two years, Fatima was piloting a mech in the Second Arkab Legion.

Fatima was clearly officer material and by age twenty-six, she was commanding a lance of mechs in the Legion. Meanwhile, her younger brother, Mohammed, had also shown aptitude for piloting a mech. Unlike Fatima, Mohammed had little devotion to the faith or loyalty to his homeland. Instead of joining the First Arkab Legion, he was accepted into the Fourieth Dieron Regulars.

Fatima’s parents were distraught and begged Fatima to look out for him. Ever the dutiful daughter, Fatima turned her back on a promising career in the Second Arkab Legion and requested a transfer to the Fourtieth Dieron to watch over her brother. She accepted a demotion but through hard work was able to earn back her lance command and eventually a company command.

When her own unit attacked the capital as part of the Black Dragon coup, Fatima was disgusged and refused to take part. She and her brother barely escaped a purge of “disloyal” personnel and fled into the wilderness where they met up with other units still loyal to the Dragon. She fought the Black Dragon, and later the Word of Blake, valiantly, but was also distracted by keeping an eye out for her brother. Eventually these resistance forces teamed up with the Monkeys in a guerilla warfare campaign against both the Black Dragons and the Word of Blake. The news of atrocities on the Azami homeworld brought both sister and brother closer together and distanced them from their loyalties to the Combine. Eventually, when their Kurita forces were whittled down to almost nothing, they made the decision to join the Monkey permeneantly.
