Jasmina Kalasa hails from the United Hindu Collective in the Federated Suns. She came from a poor family but was able to achieve mechwarrior status by earning a spot on her regional Training Battalion. She eventually joined the Islamabad March Militia, but her company was torn apart from within on Panpour during the FedCom Civil War. After her unit was destroyed, she decided to join a local mercenary group that was in-system at the time, Braga’s Buzzing Bees who were later folded into the Monkeys when they fell on hard times. To this day, she refuses to answer the question of which Steiner-Davion she supported in the civil war.

Kalasa’s combat style exemplifies the approach of the Spider Monkey lance. She will aggressively harass mechs up to twice her size by jumping to within “hugging” distance, frequently using the retractable blades on her Stealth to deadly effect. One might expect her to display a similarly aggressive personality outside the cockpit, but she is in fact very soft-spoken and quiet. She is also the token intellectual on the Monkeys roster, as she enjoys reading social theory and philosophy in her spare time.

Although she is extremely loyal to the Monkeys - and in particular to the members of the Bees in their ranks - Kalasa is more than willing to question actions if she finds them morally quesionable. Recently, this caused some dissension when she questioned whether it was wise to allow the Capellan citizens of Chamdo to black out their own HPG facility.

Kalasa is also an animal lover. When Corndog played a practical joke by letting a rhesus monkey loose on the Flaming Pineapple, it developed a relationship with Kalasa despite being a pest to everyone else on board. “Flameboy” is now almost always at her side when she is off duty.
